Commissioned Ministers of Holy Communion

Commissioned Ministers of Holy Communion have an important role in our parish:

  • They enable the timely and reverent distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during the celebration of Mass.
  • They share in the parish’s pastoral ministry, ensuring that Holy Communion can be taken to those who are housebound, ill, or dying.

For a number of years at Mass, our parishioners have been able to receive Communion under both kinds: the Consecrated Bread and the Consecrated Wine.

On behalf of the Bishop, our parish priest has commissioned a number Ministers of Holy Communion. Currently a four-weekly rota enables five Ministers to assist at both the Vigil and Sunday Masses in Garstang.

In addition, some ministers also take Holy Communion to sick or housebound parishioners who are unable to attend Mass on either a temporary or permanent basis.
